Day 3 of my 7 day devotional journey

I love devotionals, but I love God’s Word more. It’s great to have a devotional that guides your thinking process for that day and I highly recommend using one, but there is nothing like the primary source of God’s Word.

In my devotional life, I love reading Psalms and Proverbs. Psalms, for me, is often a way of insight into an expression of David (and the other writers) relationship with God. The Psalms help me to express myself to God and are a huge source of encouragement in my faith. Proverbs, on the other hand, is wisdom for life. When I was growing up, my dad forced us to read a Proverb every day (one for every day of the month). To be honest, at the time, I really despised having to wake up early and read Proverbs, but today I’m thankful. I can quote quite a few verses from Proverbs and the book really does help me with day-to-day life decisions.

Today I was reading Psalm 30 and the past few Psalms talk about David in the midst of a trial, where he fears for his life and appears to be under severe stress. The way that he encourages himself in God is inspiring. It inspired me to write this little snippet of a song this morning.
